Good News! He Is Risen!

The good news is that you CAN be forgiven, so God CAN ignore the things you have done wrong in your life, and all you need to do is ACCEPT JESUS! Jesus died for us, and He was raised from the dead so that we could have victory over death. If you truly accept Christ as your Lord and Saviour, and you honestly repent for your sins (and accept that you have sinned!), then you will know that the penalty for all those sins, and all the sins you will comit in the future, has been paid in full by Jesus on the cross so that God can forgive you and grant you entry into Heaven!

You don’t need to pay any money, you don’t have to go out and work for 20 years in an orphanage first, you simply have to accept Christ and acknowledge what He has done for you (and try to live according to His commands!).

I have sinned!

“It isn’t my fault, he told me it would be OK!”; “I didn’t do it, I just followed her example!”; “Everyone else does it so why shouldn’t I?”

Human nature tends to try and blame others for things we may do wrong. How many times have you said something like “Everyone does it”, or “It’s only a pencil”, or “I was only 10kmh over the speed limit!”? We’ve all done it, and while it seems minor what we are actually doing is avoiding taking responsibility for our actions! Our sins can’t be forgiven until we decide to admit that they’re OUR sins! One you admit something you take ownership, and once you own your sins you can hand them over to Christ.

The first step in repenting for your sins is to admit that you have sinned, and that you accept full responsibility for having commited these sins. It’s no good saying that you admit your sins if you then try and blame someone else for causing you to sin! You have to admit there is only 1 person to blame for your sins; YOU! We all have free will (after all, that’s why we are in this position in the first place!). We all choose to sin, even if it is something we see others doing, we still have the choice of doing or not doing these things ourselves. It doesn’t mean you are a really bad person if you admit responsibility for your sin, it means you are on the road to being forgiven.

Are ALL sins forgiven? What about the ‘unforgivable sin’?

The Bible tells us there is one sin that can never be forgiven. That is the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.

Mark 3:28-29 (NIV)

So what is this unforgivable sin? How do you know if you can be forgiven or not? Theologians agree that if you are concerned that you may have commited the unforgivable sin, then you have NOT! The website Christian Answers says:

...once you accept Jesus, that part of the Holy Spirit’s job is complete, thus you can’t blaspheme His work. Naturally, He continues to work with you, and you can be stubborn and resist Him as a Christian, but you can’t blaspheme Him. Live unproductively, carnal and unspiritual, possible. But commit the unpardonable sin? It’s just not possible for a true Christian.

Basically, if you know that the Holy Spirit is calling to you (as He did with me), and you refuse to accept Christ over and over and over, then you blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Again, from Christian Answers:

...If one’s conscience is bothering him to the point that he feels he is too guilty for God to forgive, he has the assurance of God’s Word that forgiveness is possible. The very fact that he is bothered by his sinfulness shows that the Holy Spirit has not abandoned him nor has God given him over to a depraved mind.

There are a few hymns that really express how I feel so well, but one of the best has to be Majesty (Here I Am). It’s words are below:

Here I am humbled by Your Majesty
Covered by Your grace so free
Here I am knowing I’m a sinful man
Covered by the blood of the Lamb

And now I’ve found
The greatest love of all is mine
Since You laid down Your life
The greatest sacrifice

Majesty, Majesty
Your grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed but alive in Your hands

Here I am, humbled by the love that You give
Forgiven so that I can forgive
Here I stand, knowing that I’m Your desire
Sanctified by glory and fire

And now I’ve found
The greatest love of all is mine
Since You laid down Your life
The greatest sacrifice

Singing Majesty, Majesty
Your grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed but alive in Your hands

Lord, Your Majesty, Majesty
Forever I am changed by Your love
In the presence of Your Majesty, Majesty

Here I am, here I am

Singing Majesty, Majesty
Your grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed but alive in Your hands

We’re singing Majesty, Majesty
Forever I am changed by Your love
In the presence of Your Majesty

Your Majesty
I’m forgiven, I’m changed
Now Your Majesty
Here I am
